Properties and Uses

It has irritating effect on gastro-intestinal tract. When eaten it produces tingling and burning sensation in tongue. It increases salivary secretions. Its decoction is used for gargling in dental infections, inflammations and diseases affecting oral cavity. It has stimulating but nourishing effect on nerves hence used in palsies, Parkinsonism and other neuromuscular and degenerative disorders. It is used in cough and hoarseness of voice. It increases blood circulation in skin and used in inflammatory skin conditions. It is commonly used in children for upper respiratory tract diseases.
